LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AP) ? An exit poll published by Slovenia's state television has shown that former Prime Minister Borut Pahor has won the presidential election in the crisis-hit EU country with 67.3 percent of the vote.
The poll conducted by Mediana polling agency said that incumbent president Danilo Turk won 32.97 percent at Sunday's runoff balloting. Official results are expected later in the evening.
The vote was held amid growing discontent with the government's anti-austerity measures and only two days after protests against those measures and alleged widespread corruption erupted in clashes.
Pahor said Slovenia needs "trust, respect and tolerance." The 49-year-old left-leaning politician added that "there is no problem that cannot be solved if we act together."
Pahor has supported some of the anti-crisis measures, unlike Turk, who has been a fierce critic.
