According to reports, Pepsi's new soda called "Pepsi Special" is launching this week in Japan. The drink is said to contain ?fat-blocking? properties thanks to added fiber called dextrin, a wheat starch found in things like foot pads and children's glue, as Blisstree points out (so appetizing, right?).
Apparently Pepsi claims that in studies of rats, dextrin has been found to lower cholesterol and block fat absorption. But, most health experts aren't buying it, including Sue Baic, a spokeswoman for the British Dietetic Association: ?I think this drink is unlikely to make much difference to how much fat you absorb," she says. "I suggest a higher fiber diet with fruit, vegetables and whole grains would be a better way to fill you up and make you feel less hungry. Plus then you would get the benefits of all the vitamins and minerals as well.?
If this new soda were to be sold here soon, would you buy it or feel like it was a little too gimicky?
